About our school

East Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in kindergarten through 8th grade in the North Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. Students must turn 5 by December 31 to enter kindergarten.

This is a neighborhood school with deep roots. What makes it different from a school that simply operates in a neighborhood is what happens inside the building and who shows up to make it happen. East Academy runs structured academics alongside arts integration, restorative practices, and leadership development. Drama Club, Art Club, Podcasting Club, STEM Club, Student Council, Dance Team, Cheerleading. Two full theatrical productions every year; one for elementary, one for middle school. Homecoming, Prom, Winter Formal. These aren't extras bolted onto the schedule. They're part of how students learn who they are.

The community partnerships tell you something about what this school believes a child needs. Let Art Breathe brings arts, performance, and creative expression into the building. Queen I Am builds identity, confidence, and leadership for young women. DRG Diamond Razor Group teaches barbering, mentorship, and entrepreneurship. Braids R Us brings braiding instruction and hair care education. These are real organizations doing real work with real students, and they show up because this school invited them in.

It's a publicly funded school. There's no tuition, no fees, and no cost to families.

Community School

East Academy is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by the Charter School Specialists, which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability. We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States.
